Software Engineer

Xtranormal is looking for full-time software engineers to join our great team in San Francisco. This position will own big chunks of our web site and the backend services and APIs that form our 3D/2D animation platform. Your work will impact the millions of Xtranormal users creating and sharing thousands of stories every day.

The ideal candidate should be a strong individual contributor with lead potential, have a collaborative and open style, and take pride in innovative work done well. Great candidates are likely be generalists with a web focus, have done sysadmin/operational work to support their production code, and may have contributed to the open source community. You should be able to apply your experience to our software stack which includes Python and Django, Rabbitmq/celery, Solr/Lucene, EC2 and other Amazon Web Services, jQuery, Bootstrap, Sass, PhoneGap.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of Xtranormal application development, including product and software design, prototyping, Python/Django development, test automation, and deployment
  • Contribute code and good practices across our software stack. Identify and promote opportunities for improving how we do things.
  • Maintain existing applications and allocate a portion of time to working a ticket backlog. Support customer bug characterization and issue resolution as needed.
  • Promote high quality of our codebases and help develop our architecture and practices

Requirements:

  • 3+ years coding experience using the web stack and server-side components including MVC-style frameworks such as Django/Python, Rails/Ruby, ASP/C#, or Spring/Java
  • Familarity with HTTP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and other pieces of the modern web stack. On the server, you should have experience with SQL and Linux/Unix.
  • Bonus for significant skills in a few of the following: Python/Django, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, mobile application development, continuous deployment, sysadmin, video animation/rendering
